Department of Clinical Nutrition

INTRODUCTION

The Department of Clinical Nutrition is a specialized unit of Tra Vinh General Hospital, responsible for managing, organizing and implementing clinical nutrition, dietetics and food safety services throughout the hospital. Serving as a bridge between medical treatment and comprehensive care, the Department helps improve treatment outcomes, shorten hospital stays, reduce complications and enhance patients’ quality of life through scientific, safe and individualized nutritional solutions.

The Department consists of 2 units:

  • Clinical Nutrition Unit
  • Dietetics Unit: preparation and provision of therapeutic diets.

Established in 2004 with an initial team of 1 physician and 2 nurses, the Department now has 8 members: 1 physician serving as Deputy Head of Department and 7 staff members (1 Bachelor of Nursing, 2 Bachelors of Nutrition, 1 Associate Degree Nurse, 1 Pharmacist and 2 service staff).

The Department currently carries out a full range of activities, including malnutrition risk screening, nutritional status assessment, nutrition intervention planning, dietary counseling and medical nutrition therapy, as well as providing therapeutic meals tailored to each disease group and patient condition. It also works closely with clinical departments to provide oral, enteral and parenteral nutrition support as clinically indicated.

In addition to medical examination and treatment, the Department conducts health education, provides post-discharge dietary guidance, monitors food safety, and participates in training, scientific research and hospital quality improvement.

Guided by the motto “Adequate Energy – Healthy Body – Better Treatment Outcomes”, the Department remains patient-centered, continuously innovating and applying the professional guidelines of the Ministry of Health and national and international clinical nutrition organizations to deliver high-quality nutritional care.
