Functions and duties.

  • Department of Pathology is the unit that performs histopathology and cytology tests, providing key evidence for accurate diagnosis, treatment planning and monitoring of treatment effectiveness. It also manages the morgue.

The department currently performs the following techniques:

  • Routine histopathology staining (HE).
  • Cytology testing.
  • Intraoperative frozen section biopsy, helping surgeons make decisions during the operation.
  • Immunohistochemical staining for breast diseases, helping to confirm the diagnosis and guide appropriate treatment.

With its working spirit of “Welcoming, prompt, safe, accurate” and continual improvement of professional quality, the Department of Pathology works alongside the clinical specialties to deliver safe, effective, patient-centered health care.

  • Role in the hospital's medical examination and treatment activities.

- The Department of Pathology plays an important role in medical examination and treatment by performing histopathology, cytology, frozen section biopsy and immunohistochemistry tests, providing accurate results for diagnosis, disease classification, prognosis assessment, selection of treatment methods and monitoring of treatment effectiveness. In particular, frozen section biopsy supports intraoperative decision-making; immunohistochemistry with ER, PR, HER2 and Ki-67 markers guides personalized breast cancer treatment; cytology techniques and fine-needle aspiration (FNA) contribute to the early detection of lesions, improving treatment effectiveness and the quality of patient care.

  • Patients served.

      The Department of Pathology serves:

  • Inpatients and outpatients referred for histopathology, cytology, frozen section biopsy and immunohistochemistry tests.
  • Patients with tumors, lymph nodes or organ lesions that require determination of benign or malignant nature, staging and prognosis.
  • Patients with suspected or diagnosed cancer requiring confirmation of diagnosis, histological classification and biomarker assessment to guide treatment selection and monitor treatment response.
  • Patients with lesions of the thyroid, breast, lymph nodes, soft tissue and other organs requiring fine-needle aspiration (FNA), including ultrasound-guided FNA.
  • Patients undergoing surgery who require frozen section biopsy to help surgeons make decisions during the operation.

Department highlights.

  • Performing histopathological diagnosis (HE), cytology, frozen section biopsy and immunohistochemistry in breast cancer. Supporting accurate diagnosis, early cancer detection, prognosis assessment and treatment guidance.
  • Providing rapid frozen section results to support treatment decisions during surgery.
  • Performing immunohistochemistry tests (ER, PR, HER2, Ki-67), contributing to personalized breast cancer treatment.
  • Accurate and timely testing procedures in close coordination with other specialties to improve the effectiveness of patient care.

PROFESSIONAL STRENGTHS

  • Histopathological diagnosis: Determining the nature of lesions and the classification and grading of tumors as a basis for diagnosis and treatment.
  • Immunohistochemistry: Performing ER, PR, HER2 and Ki-67 markers to assess prognosis and guide personalized treatment, especially in breast cancer.
  • Intraoperative biopsy (frozen section): Providing rapid results during surgery to support margin assessment and surgical decision-making.
  • Cytological diagnosis: Performing FNA and ultrasound-guided FNA to support early, minimally invasive diagnosis and guide the management of lesions, especially cancer.

TRAINING & RESEARCH

The Department of Pathology participates in training and professional guidance for healthcare staff and students in pathology, cytology and specialized laboratory techniques. The department regularly updates and applies scientific and technical advances to improve diagnostic capacity and the quality of patient care.
